Birth Activsm in Action

It is so wonderful to see women standing up for their birthing sisters.  Many women have been traumatized by obstetrical violence and been ignored because they have a live baby. Birth s more than just the birth of a baby.  It is the birth of a mother, birth of a father, and of a family.  How that birth occurs will have a deep impact on every person in that family.  Birth matters and women need to be respected.  After all, it is women who have chosen to sacrifice their bodies to bring a human into this world, they should be honored for their choice and should govern every step of the way.

Women have the right to choose how they birth their baby.  Women are the ones who are most invested in the life and health of their baby and will be the one who make the best decisions for the optimal health outcome for their family.

Obstetrical violence has become normal in our society that we don’t even recognize it in most cases.  When women say “No” and things are done to their body anyone, they have been assaulted and battered.    When someone tells a woman they have no choice but to consent, they have been manipulated and violated.

Yet we have a system that thinks it is OK to do these things to women.  We have a system that has mistaken itself as the authority in birth.  The ONLY authority in birth is the birthing woman.

Thanks for sharing this, Nancy. Groups like “Humanize Birth” are popping up all over the world. It’s time for us to band together and demand that violence against birthing mothers STOPS immediately. Good luck tonight – you’re a rising star!
